Consider these spring-cleaning tips to help eliminate allergy flare-ups:

Use a Vacuum with a HEPA Filter

Dust mites are one of the top culprits of allergy fits. Frustratingly, they are so tiny that it’s impossible to see them with the naked eye. If you have carpet, you can be confident that these tiny mites are embedded into the fabric. They feed on discarded skin cells that fall from humans and pets. One of the best ways to rid your home of this frustrating culprit is by using a powerful vacuum that has a HEPA filter. This filter is key to trap dust mites in the vacuum instead of spewing them back into the air. Vacuum one to two times each week.

Scrub Your Bathroom Free of Mold

Apart from your bedroom, you probably spend a good amount of time in your bathroom. Frustratingly, this is one of the most popular rooms to find mold! This is due to the damp environment that is commonly found in bathrooms. If you see mold between your shower tile, floor, or behind your toilet, make sure to scrub it until the mold is removed. Other places you may spot mold is on your shower curtain or wallpaper. If possible, throw both away and replace to ensure the mold is eliminated. (Use mold-resistant paint on the walls instead of wallpaper.)

Clean Your Bedroom Thoroughly

If you sleep for 8 hours each night, you spend 2,920 hours in your bed each year! With so much time being spent in your bed and bedroom, it’s vital that this room is an allergy-free space. As often as possible, wash your sheets in hot water to kill dust mites, vacuum your carpet to eliminate dirt and mites, and move furniture around to clean the hard-to-reach areas.

These tips are a great start to help yourself be allergy-free! But, it’s likely that you’ll need medical help to ensure you can enjoy spring without the presence of frustrating allergens. Our doctors would love to help you find allergy relief! Contact us today.
